The Ten Days of Alan: Day 1

Greetings Earthlings

Well day one over. What a moment for mankind! Alan Measles coming amongst you. The good citizens of Chelmsford where first to be exposed to my benevolent life ray.

Grayson piloted me over to see his aged Aunt and Uncle first and they were bowled over to be in my presence and they quite liked my bike too. Auntie Marj’s sister Daphne knitted my royal boilersuit (shades of Churchill perhaps?) many years ago.

The weather was glorious as we thrummed through the dreary south Essex landscape. Countryside for a tank based invasion I used to think. Now I just enjoy the industrial farming bleakness.

We arrived at Chelmsford Museum in plenty of time and already an expectant crowd was gathering. Then the good Mayor and Mayoress of Chelmsford arrived in their official car. It turned out he was called Alan also! Bless. He handed over to Grayson an official message of goodwill for the Mayor of Backnang in Germany. They were terribly good fun in a quite cultured way much to my surprise.

A lady from the twinning association also handed Grayson a teddy wearing a T shirt bearing the logo of her organisation. Imagine how I felt, go on, exactly. Humph!

We then sped on to High Beech where the bikers hang out. A sweet lady called Julie on a grey horse gave me a charm made of Polo mints and horse hair, for horsepower she said. We met some other bloke called Alan as well more of him later. Children cried with delight women swooned and grown men were seen to burst into tears of joy on seeing me.

Once the spiritual appetites of the Epping bikers were sated we thundered round the M25 through the tailback over the Thames estuary thence to the Eurotunnel. We stopped briefly at a ‘services’. These seem to be how shall I put it ‘democratic’ institutions. I was exposed to the common heard. I faltered in my decision to save the human race but fear not I was brave.

Now I am in France for the first time since WW2! We start in Dunkirk, I will replay the drama but in a good peaceful way.

Over and out
